Ghana Urges Calm After Trump Issues Fresh Warning to Venezuela Over Regional Stability

Accra — The Government of Ghana has urged diplomatic calm following renewed remarks by former United States President Donald Trump warning Venezuela against actions he described as a threat to regional stability.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasised the importance of peaceful engagement and respect for international law, noting that escalating rhetoric could heighten tensions in an already fragile geopolitical environment.

Trump, who remains a dominant political figure ahead of the 2026 U.S. election cycle, warned that Venezuela’s leadership could face “serious consequences” if it continued policies that Washington considers destabilising, including its stance on regional security and migration.

Ghanaian officials said while nations have the right to protect their interests, diplomatic channels must remain the primary means of resolving disputes. “Africa has consistently advocated dialogue over confrontation,” the statement read.

Political analysts in Accra say Ghana’s response reflects its long-standing foreign policy principle of non-alignment and peaceful coexistence, while maintaining strategic relations with both Western partners and Global South nations.

The development comes as global leaders monitor rising political tensions in Latin America, with concerns about spillover effects on trade, migration, and international cooperation.
